Found your website from an OLD post by Jessica at Trivium... I love this idea about service and will definitely incorporate it in my home. I've also got to get that book! Thanks for sharing!

Happy Summer, from one year 'round homeschool mom to another. You have an ambitious summer planned out. Looks like you have some excellent choices. You are the one who inspired me to set up a nice homeschool room, and we continue to enjoy using it.

We just plug along in Calvert through the summer. Summer is when we usually accomplish the most school.

Best wishes!

All we have done is AWANA on Wed. and that's it. I don't think we can handle more than that ;) It's nice. The kids have never complained about not being in sports, music etc.

Enjoyed reading your blog =)

I hear you, girl! We struggle with this, too, especially since we live out in the country and activities mean lots of time spent in the car just getting there and back! For some reason, spring time is the worst time for us, too. I am actually thankful for summer this year. One thing we have decided is that the activity must be something that we can bring both children to, so for example, I bring both of them to P.E. one afternoon a week at the same place, or both of them go to AWANA together one evening, and they both have their violin lessons together. I will not yet fall into the trap of driving my son one place, and my daughter to another place, like I've seen parents do. Even so, life gets too busy, and I have to stop and ask myself: "What happened to the simple life? Why am I being stupid? I miss family read aloud time in the evenings!" (read aloud time got replaced by violin practice hour, because we haven't the stomach to practice any earlier in the day. ) And to think, I am hoping to get them into church chorus next year, too. This is one reason I have said "no" to youth orchestra so far.. first, because I hear that their technique suffers when they play in an orchestra, and second, that our only 100% unscheduled day (Saturday) would be the morning of practice. I don't want to give up my precious Saturday. You are right. The Lord didn't make us to do all these activities. I wish you wisdom in knowing how best to cut back. I think the tendency is for it to get worse as they get older, so you need to constantly be on the lookout for cutting back.
